The bakery bell tinkles as I step inside. I'm pretty sure it's a good thing that Hazel has asked me to pick her up from her family shop, it means she's told her sisters that she's going on a date.

Or just that she's spending time with me.

"Hi, Antonio," Clover says brightly as I step inside.

"Hey." I give her a half-wave. "Do they always stick you behind the counter? You always seem to be the one in the front."

"It's just my turn," she says brightly. "Normally Oakley does this shift, but she's been getting a lot of wedding orders recently and they take up a lot of her time. I don't mind though, the bakery works because we all work together." She's full of energy as she moves around. I can see similarities to the way Hazel moves around the kitchen.

As if summoned by my thoughts, Hazel appears from the back of the shop. Her gaze lands on me and she instantly smiles. "Not a minute late," she says.

"I promised I wouldn't be," I respond.

"I'll be back later," she tells her sister. "But there's more tarts in fridge three if you need them and I'll keep an eye on my phone in case there's an emergency."

"Uh-uh, we're not going to call you for anything," Clover responds. "Enjoy your date."

Ah, so she's told her sisters what we're doing, that's interesting. And welcome. I like that she's comfortable enough to do that.

I hold the door open for her and let her step out ahead of me.

"So, what's the plan?" she asks, turning to face me.

Her long blue hair is in loose waves around her face, framing it in a beautiful way that I haven't really seen from her before. The dress isn't like anything she's worn around me either. It's knee-length and flares around her waist, making her both look classy and cute at the same time.

"I'm not actually sure," I admit. "I haven't been on any dates in a while."

"Me neither."

That's reassuring, though I don't say as much, I don't want her to think that it matters to me how many people she might have dated in the past.

"But when I was coming up with things to do, I realised I had no idea where it was best to eat around here, or if there's anything fun to do."

"Ah, right. You'll have dated mostly in Italy, right?"

I chuckle. "Are you fishing for my dating history?"

A small blush crosses her cheeks. "Not at all."

I hold out my arm so she can slip her arm through it. She does, resting her hand on my sleeve and leaning into me slightly.

"I've never actually dated in Italy. I moved to England when I was ten."

"Did your whole family come?"

I shake my head. "Just me and my parents. My grandparents still live in Italy. I visit them most summers when I can. But that doesn't leave much time for dating."

"I see. So where did you grow up?"

"London, mostly."

"Ah, so a small town in the country isn't really your speed.
